What assistance IDB could provide to start an industry?
First of all a suitable industry should be identified carefully analyzing your specific requirements and our island wide trained staff is ready to assist you. . IDB has designed a training programme “ Start Your Business” (SYB) and “Start and Improve Your Business “ (SIYB) for this purpose.

IDB could assist to improve your industry after carefully identifying your immediate requirement. This should be done in a systematic manner giving priority and analyzing the specific requirement.
It could be quality improvement of products, productivity development, managerial skill development etc. Our island wide trained staff is ready to assist you.
IDB has designed a special training programme “ Improve Your Business” (IYB) for this purpose.

Q. What are the industrial estates where a new plot of land can be acquired to start an industry?
A. Awareness of existing industrial estates on vacant plots will be provided and the relevant application and project report information can be obtained from the IDB website.
Q. What is the standard procedure to apply and transfer of plots?
A. A report and application for the relevant project will be submitted and analyzed by an evaluation committee and based on the feasibility of the project the plots will be handed over subject to a lease period of 30 years.
Q. What is the methodology by which rent is levied and what are the costs to be borne by new investors?
A. The monthly rent is calculated on the basis of the assessed value obtained by the Government Valuation Department and the 3 year refundable deposit for the transfer of the land and the first year rent is to be paid to the Board at once.
Q. What are the facilities available in the industrial estate?
A. Three-phase electricity, water, internal roads, drainage systems, security services, proper maintenance and administration of the estate.
Q. What are the facilities and services provided in importing raw materials and machinery for the industry?
A. Coordinating with the line ministry to obtain the required tax relief and other services in this regard.
Q. What are the services provided to obtain financial assistance?
A. Mortgages can be made subject to the terms of the agreement signed for lands transferred on a 30-year lease basis.

Q. How to find out about training programs?
A. Training workshops conducted by the Technical Services Division can be obtained by calling 011-2605278 / 011-2612603, Sunday Lankadeepa newspaper, the Small Enterprise Development Division of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Contact the relevant district office for programs conducted by the District Offices.
Training program information is published on the IDB website and official Facebook page.
Q. What are the areas where training is provided by the Technical Services Division?
A. Training workshops will be conducted in 4 major areas namely Food, Chemical, Oils & Fibers and Building Materials.
Q. Does the Technical Services Division conduct external training programs?

A. IDB Library is an industry-specific library. This is to the IDB staff and Provides library services for external readers such as entrepreneurs, researchers, university and school students.

A. Reference can be made by visiting the library and obtaining membership by paying the membership fee as follows

- 06 months Membership - Rs. 250.00
- One year membership - Rs. 350.00
Q. How to get information about publications for sale?
A. Publications are available on the IDB Web site, by email, telephone, mail, or at all of our district offices.

Q. Can I purchase publications by post?
A. Pay the amount to Bank of Ceylon (idama Branch) Account No. 70034730and send the reader's name, address, telephone number and the publication or publication required for purchase in clear handwriting to the library by registered post with a cover letter and the green receipt issued by the bank.
The Postage fee varies according to the weight of the publication and is added to the price of the publication.
If the Publication weight is between 20g - 50g then the postage fee would be Rs. 150.00
If the Publication weight is between 60g - 150g then the postage fee would be Rs. 200.00
If the Publication weight is between 160g - 500g then the postage fee would be Rs. 350.00
If the Publication weight is between 510g - 600g then the postage fee would be Rs. 400.00
Q. What is the charge for photocopies?
