2-Day User Training Workshop on Energy Management System (EnMS)
The Industrial Development Board (IDB), in collaboration with the Accelerating Industries’ Climate Response Sri Lanka project, which is implemented by UNIDO and funded by the European Union, successfully organized a 2-Day User Training Workshop on Energy Management System (EnMS) on 27th and 28th August 2025 at the Centre of Excellence for Water and Sanitation (CEWAS), Ratmalana.
The workshop was designed for management professionals and technical experts seeking to adopt ISO 50001-aligned Energy Management Systems (EnMS) in their industries. Recognizing Sri Lanka’s heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels and the challenges of high energy costs, the program emphasized the importance of systematic energy management in reducing consumption, lowering costs, and improving industrial competitiveness.
Participants gained insights into building strong business cases for EnMS adoption, understanding energy metrics, strategies to cut greenhouse gas emissions, and the broader benefits of a structured approach to energy efficiency.
The sessions were conducted by distinguished resource persons:
Mr. Siraj Williams, UNIDO International Energy Expert, with expertise in energy management systems, motor systems, compressed air systems, and pump systems.
Dr. Arosha Hemali, leading energy expert in industrial sustainability and lecturer at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, recognized for her pioneering work in renewable technologies and energy substitution.
Mr. Sumudu Baduwasam, National Energy Management Expert with UNIDO, who has extensive experience in training industries in EnMS development under the Accelerating Industries’ Climate Response project.
The workshop concluded on a high note with industry participants actively engaging in discussions on energy efficiency strategies and future implementation pathways. IDB Chairman, Mr. Ravi Nissanka, also addressed the gathering and extended his best wishes, highlighting the commitment of IDB to advancing Sri Lanka’s industrial sustainability and resilience.
Venue: Centre of Excellence for Water and Sanitation (CEWAS), Ratmalana.
