  • Sri Lanka’s first institute of industry professionals (SLIIP) established by boosting industry professionalism

The official launch of SLIIP, initiated by the Industrial Development Board (IDB) under the Ministry of Industry, took place today at Water’s Edge Hotel, Battaramulla with the aim of developing the industrial sector in Sri Lanka. The event was graced by the Minister of Industry and Health, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Industry Professionals (SLIIP), launched today, is a professional institute established for industry professionals with the goal of increasing professionalism in Sri Lanka by enhancing the knowledge, experience, and skills needed to uplift the industry.

The Industrial Development Board has planned to offer numerous services through this institution. These include utilizing the expert knowledge of industry professionals for sector development, enhancing communication among professionals, providing an active platform for solving industry-related problems, and offering training programs for professionals.

Minister of Industry and Health, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, who attended the event, stated:

“It is crucial for industrialists and entrepreneurs to advance robustly for the country’s economic development. The government has launched a comprehensive program to foster entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka. Our service economy has made significant progress, and the production economy must be empowered to reach the same level. Despite facing numerous crises such as energy shortages, electricity and fuel scarcities, a dollar shortage, and the COVID-19 pandemic, we achieved the highest export income in history in 2022. The industrial sector has developed rapidly over the past few years, and it is essential to sustain this momentum and move towards sustainable development.”

The minister also presented membership certificates to the committee members of the Sri Lanka Institute of Industry Professionals. During the event, the official website of SLIIP was launched, and the official logo was unveiled. The website can be accessed at www.sliip.lk.

The event was attended by Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma, Chairman of the Industrial Development Board, H.M.S. Samarakoon, Director General of the Industrial Development Board, along with other IDB officials, government representatives, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and various other stakeholders.
