As the first step of the IDB–BOI Feeder Zone Project, implemented with the objectives of strengthening Sri Lanka’s local industries, expanding the domestic supply chain and reducing dependence on imports, a productive discussion was recently (2026.09.03) held with industrialists operating at the Ekala Industrial Estate who contribute to the local supply chain by supplying products and services to export-oriented markets.
The key objective of the discussion was to identify opportunities to establish stronger business and supply linkages between local industries operating within IDB Industrial Estates and BOI companies, while facilitating greater integration of locally manufactured products into national and export supply chains.
During the discussion, the Chairman of the Industrial Development Board (IDB) outlined the future i5 Industrial Strategy and discussed the initiatives to be jointly implemented by the IDB’s Industrial Estates and Regional Development Divisions in collaboration with industrialists.
Participating industrialists shared valuable insights and recommendations based on their business experiences, current production and supply capabilities, opportunities to expand local procurement, existing challenges and future requirements.
This initiative is not limited to a single discussion. It marks the beginning of a long-term programme aimed at establishing strong and sustainable linkages among local industrialists operating within IDB Industrial Estates, BOI companies, and the national manufacturing and export supply chain.
The initiative, which commenced at Ekala, is expected to be expanded across the country to further strengthen industrial linkages between IDB Industrial Estates and BOI companies, while creating new market and local sourcing opportunities for Sri Lankan manufacturers.
Representatives including Chief Executive Officers, Managing Directors, Factory Managers and other officials from Unimak (Pvt) Ltd, Cantec Exports (Pvt) Ltd, Mango Graphic Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, CK Packaging (Pvt) Ltd, Lanka Polybags & Packaging (Pvt) Ltd, Anton Plastic Industries, Micro Auto Products (Pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Tapes (Pvt) Ltd, Pan Asia Coloured Yarns (Pvt) Ltd and Star Paper Bobbins (Pvt) Ltd participated in the discussion.
Directors, Assistant Directors and officials representing the Industrial Estates and Regional Development Divisions of the Industrial Development Board also participated in the discussion.
Through initiatives that strengthen local industries, expand domestic supply chains and foster productive industrial linkages, the Industrial Development Board is committed to advancing towards a stronger industrial system, a stronger economy and a stronger Sri Lanka.
