The signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Industrial Development Board and the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission to improve skilled labor in small and medium scale industries to face global competition took place on 08.04.2024 in the morning at Nipunatha Piyasa, Colombo 05 premises.
For this, representing Ceylon Industry Development Board, Chairman, Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma, Board Member, Mr. P.L.U. Ratnamalala, Director General, Mr. H.M.S. Samarakon, Deputy Director General, Mr. Nishantha Weeratunga and other officials participated, and representing the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, Chairman, Dr. Udeni Wickramasinghe, Deputy Director General, Dr. Janaka Jayalath, Director/Industrial Relations, Mr. Manjula Vidanapathirana participated.
Through the MoU, it is expected to reduce the disparity between the needs of various industrial sectors and the professional skill labor, and to develop the skill level of workers in the industries to meet the global demand. In the initial phase, it is expected to be implemented in the areas of Construction & Decor (Ceramic), Footwear & Leather, Automobile & Automotive Parts, Design & Packaging.
